St Austell is a market town in the heart of Cornwall, just a couple of miles from our beautiful coastline.
There is an interesting mix of local and national retailers. From major chain stores like Boots, TK Maxx, New Look & Wilkinson’s to the independent and unique antique shops, print & design shops, gift shops, kitchen suppliers etc. These shops are friendly and individual, with a focus on quality and customer care.
The Market House is the jewel in the crown for St Austell. It is one of St. Austell’s most impressive buildings, built-in an Italian Renaissance style in 1844. The upper floor, originally the Town Hall, has also been a Picture House, Fire Station and Court. Numerous key events in the history of St Austell have taken place at the Market House. Now it is home to many unique businesses and café’s.
Many of the shops are independent family run businesses and have different opening times. If you are making a special trip to visit a particular shop it would be worth confirming their opening times with them beforehand.
St Austell is a pleasure to visit and shop in at any time of year. In December, on Tuesday evenings until Christmas, the streets come alive with late-night festivities, street entertainment, food stalls, shopping and music. Market traders, hand crafted gifts, live bands and local dancers are just some of the treats to delight the shoppers.
St Austell is also home to the Eden Project, The Lost Gardens of Heligan, Wheal Martyn, Pinetum Park, St Austell Brewery and many other first class tourist attractions.
